The 74th birthday celebrations of the world-famous Iranian cartoonist and graphic artist Kambiz Derambakhsh was held on May 27 at the Imam Ali Religious Art Museum in Tehran.
Among the attendees of the special program titled ‘Birthday of the Moon’, were skilled painter Ali Faramarzi, graphic designer Bahram Kalhornia, caricaturist Ahmad Arabani, and graphic designer Bahman Abdi.
Mahmoud Salahi, head of Tehran Municipality Cultural and Art Organization, congratulated the veteran artist for his life-long services in the field of art, IRNA reported.
The special program is aimed to honor veteran artists for their achievements and contributions and to bring them together in an informal way with other artists and enthusiasts, he added.
Born in Shiraz, Fars Province, Derambakhsh, 74, has received many global awards, including the grand prize of Japan’s Yomiuri Shimbun competition in 1998, and in international contests held in Switzerland, Turkey, Brazil, Germany, Yugoslavia and Italy. He was also honored at the closing ceremony of the 25th edition of the Aydin Dogan International Cartoon Competition in Istanbul in 2008 and has judged many contests around the globe.
The works of the prolific artist have been exhibited in numerous galleries and accredited museums such as Tehran Museum of Contemporary Arts, Basel Museum of Caricatures, Hiroshima Museum of Japan, Anti-War Museum of Yugoslavia, Istanbul Museum of Cartoons, and the Warsaw Museum of Caricatures. The Modern Art Museum and the Nicolas Flamel Gallery in France as well as the Frankfurt Municipality Hall in Germany have showcased his works.
He has written and compiled a number of books, including ‘Without Words’ published in Iran, and ‘Kambiz’ published in Italy. In 2013, the Michel Lafon Publishing house in France released a selection of works by Derambakhsh over the past 35 years in the form of a book.
