The Iranian national beach soccer team, last year’s world champs, lost to Portugal and ranked 4th in the Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup Dubai 2014. However, at the end of the games, Iran’s forward player Mohammad Ahmadzadeh was chosen as one of the outstanding players of the tournament.
Other than Ahmadzadeh, two Brazilian players, one Portuguese, and one Japanese player were selected as the best of the Team of the Tournament.
Coached by Marco Octavio, the Iranian national team lost Saturday’s match to Portugal 3-0 failing to even make it to the 3d position, FNA reported.
Portugal defeated Iran earlier in the stage group 4-2; while that could have been expected, it was a bit of an upset as Iran was the defending champion, but neither side seemed disappointed to be playing for the 3rd place after the semi-final losses.
In the first two half’s, neither teams scored. Portugal did not score until the last moment and did so thrice to defeat the champs, Iran. The win gave Portugal the 3rd place and Iran the 4th among the 8 best teams across the continents.
Brazil took home the crown after beating Russia in overtime. The 3-2 win for Brazil over Russia made them the champions in this year’s round of the competition.
Morocco, UAE, Japan, and USA ranked 5th to 8th respectively.
