Two young Iranian artists have won the Excellence Award at the 1st West International Design Biennale (Silk Road Spirit) in China.
Graphist Mohammad Afshar and designer Reza Bakhtiarifard were selected in the Professional Group section of the competition, the Persian art magazine ‘Tandis’ reported.
Afshar won the best prize for poster design by presenting posters for theater performances ‘Smile Hog’ by Ehsan Rouhi, ‘Guardian and Dragon’ by Sahar Rezvani and ‘Solace for One Hour’ by Hamed Qaraei. Bakhtiarifard presented a font design which earned him the award.
The Silk Road Spirit aims to promote design education and design communication, and to provide a platform for designers, university teachers and students to share experiences and to encourage creativity and talent as well as to enhance the quality of design.
Participants in the competition had to apply ‘innovative and reflective design’ in their works.
Afshar, 33, from Khorasan Province has also won the second prize at the 2015 1st ‘City Breath’ Posters and Photos Festival and the third prize at the poster designing section of the 34th Fajr International Theater Festival in the same year.
Bakhtiarifard, 26, is currently doing his BA course in graphics in Tehran University of Art.
He won the first prize at ‘Moalla’ calligraphy contest in 2008, and his works have featured in numerous exhibitions.
