Tehran Symphonic Orchestra (TSO) will stage a music performance, conducted by Iranian-Armenian musician Loris Tjeknavorian, as the first charitable concert in the new Persian calendar year (started March 20).

In a contribution to charity institutions in the country, the TSO is co-organized by Roudaki Foundation, Ministry of Cooperation, Labor and Social Welfare and the State Welfare Organization, Mehr News Agency reported.

The program is slated for early May at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall and the proceeds will go to charities.

As one of the leading conductors of his generation, Tjeknavorian, 79, has led international orchestras in many countries, namely Austria, the UK, the US, Canada, Hungary, Finland, Armenia, Thailand, Hong Kong, South Africa and Denmark.

As a composer he has written 6 operas, 5 symphonies, choral works, chamber music, ballet music, piano and vocal works, concerti for piano, violin, guitar and cello, as well as music for documentary and feature films.

He also is the winner of Top Art Medal (2002), Iran’s highest medal for performing arts, of two ‘Golden Harp Awards’ for the Highest Artistic Achievement in the 15th and 16th Fajr International Music Festival in Tehran.
