Two books from Iran were among the finalists of the annual competition ‘Best Book Design from all over the World’ in Germany.

A total of 600 books from 32 countries participated in the contest and although the Persian books did not win the prize, they were among the 64 titles from 24 countries which entered the final round, selected by a multinational jury of seven members, ISNA reported.

‘Imam Ali (AS) Epic’ written by Mehdi Shafiei and ‘The Little Book of Love’ by Ismaeil Firouzi competed in this year’s edition of the contest. Majid Zare and Nasim Atashinjan did the graphic designs respectively for the two books.

An exhibition of all the submitted works will be shown during the 2016 Leipzig Book Fair, March 17-20 in Germany. The finalist books will also be displayed at the Frankfurt Book Fair in October.

The competition is held every March during the Leipzig Book Fair which is the most important spring event for the publishing and media sector.

Unique of its kind in the world, the annual book design contest has been held in Leipzig since 1963. The international competition assesses books which have previously been judged and singled out for merit by specialist panels in their respective countries of origin.

In 2014, an Iranian novel ‘Hello Stone’ written by Mohammad Reza Bayrami received an honorary appreciation at the event. Majid Zare was the designer of that book as well.

Shabaviz Publishing Company is the Iranian representative of the international competition which introduces the best works by local publishers to the event.
