Iran Architecture Exhibition in Japan

Japan will host the ‘Contemporary Architecture of Iran’ exhibition from March 15-21, in the follow up to the showcasing of Iranian architecture at the Venice Biennale (May 25 to November 27, 2015).

The event is co-organized by Iranian Architects Society (IAS), Persian Seismic Retrofitting Institute, The Japan Institute of Architecture (JIA), Architecture Institute of Japan (AIJ)and Fuji Women’s University, Honaronline reported.

According to ‘Etoood’, the website of Iran Contemporary Architect, the exhibition in Tokyo will contribute to the expansion of bilateral cultural relations, with special focus on architecture, through displays, lectures, scientific exchange and sharing experiences in designing and implementation, said Mehrdad Zavvareh-Mohammadi, director of the upcoming event.

There will be several categories, including general projects (Icon), apartment projects (IN Fill), environmental projects (Monad), and restoring projects (Re Use).

 “The submitted works by Iranian participants will be sorted out category-wise, after being examined and selected by a jury of Iranian and Japanese specialists in the field, he said.

The initial selection of works and planning and scheduling of the activities will be carried out by an 8-member team.

Among the other programs planned, is the visit of Iranian architects to outstanding Japanese architectural projects, the Tokyo and Fuji universities, and the two institutes of AIJ and JIA. In addition, the participants will visit prominent auto companies, such as Mitsubishi and Toyota.

Ali Kermanian, Alireza Taghaboni, Babak Shokoufi, Shahab Mirzaeian and Saman Sayyar are among the Iranian architects who will take part in the event.

Similar events are being planned in Iranian cities of Tehran and Tabriz later and well-known architects will be invited to attend. The details are to be announced soon.

In November 2015, ‘An Insight to Contemporary Iranian and Japanese Architecture’ exhibition was held at Aseman Cultural Center in Tehran, in which Japanese architects participated. Another exhibit was held at Isfahan’s architecture center.
