Persian animation ‘Children of Desert’, directed by Saadat Rahimzadeh, won two prizes at the 12th international student animation festival in Brazil (Anim Arte 2015).

The animation won the best prize in the Asian category and the third prize in the international ‘World Culture-Professional’ section as announced by the festival secretariat, Mehr News Agency reported.

A documentary cartoon, the animation unravels life of desert residents of Iran in the context of their customs, geographic climate, clothing styles and local jobs.

Color paste is the material with which the animation characters are created. Frame by frame, the paste dolls are moved by hand, which is the most difficult and time taking technique in animation making, said Rahimzadeh.

“I avoided narrations in order to present a realistic picture.”

Anim Arte is an international festival of animated films with a focus on student audience. Its objective is to stimulate the cultural and the artistic growth of young animators by encouraging the production of animated films, especially among students.

The 12th edition took place in December 2015 at Rio de Janeiro and Curitiba in Brazil.
