Shirin Gallery is the only representative from Iran which will introduce works of a veteran Iranian artist at the Art Dubai Modern 2016, slated for March 16-19.

This is the third consecutive year that the gallery has a booth at the fair where it promotes Iranian art and artists in a venue attended by art experts and enthusiasts from across the world.

Shirin Gallery will showcase a selection of paintings by Ali Akbar Sadeghi, from his collections in the 1960s and 1970s, at the fair where works of other artists will also be presented by 11 more galleries from London, Beirut, Nairobi, Dubai, Cairo, Jeddah, Tunis and Amman.

In addition to his paintings, six of Sadeghi’s award winning animations, which have been restored, will be shown in high definition quality for the first time, said a press release from the gallery.

Born in Tehran, Sadeghi, 78, in his evocative paintings draws on the rich traditions of Persian art, but adds to them a surreal edge. The characters and objects he depicts in his works are derived from various sources that range from historical Persian literature.

Sadeghi rearranges subjects of his interest in a variety of media, including painting, graphic design, illustration and animation. From this perspective, he is considered to be a master of Iran’s visual arts in the last five decades.

 Book Launch

The exhibit will be followed by a book launch on March 17 at the Global Art Forum.

The book series ‘The Complete Works by Ali-Akbar Sadeghi’, edited by art curator Ali Bakhtiari, focuses on the artist’s many diverse artistic activities. The launch will unveil ‘The Life Book’, ‘The Love Book’ and ‘The Lost Book’, which cover the artist’s works from the 1960s to date.

Bakhtiari founded ABbookness and ABprojects in 2012 as curatorial platforms to focus on modern and contemporary Iranian art. Their mission is to highlight the less-represented aspects of Iranian art, through publishing artists’ books and organizing related exhibitions.

ABbookness has so far published the texts and works of veteran artist Farideh Lashai, Parviz Tanavoli, Parvaneh Etemadi.

Shirin Gallery is one of the leading promoters of Iranian modern and contemporary art globally. With branches in Tehran and New York, the gallery has played a pivotal role in Iran’s art movement, while building a bridge for cultural exchange between Iran and the international community.

Art Dubai is the leading international art fair in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. Taking place each year in March, it has become a cornerstone of the region’s fast-growing contemporary arts community and is recognized as one of the most globalised meeting points in the art world today.
