Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed Amer, a prominent Egyptian Qari (Qur’an reciter), passed away on Saturday, February 20.
The veteran Qari who captivated Muslims in Egypt and other countries with his beautiful recitations died at the age of 89, IQNA reported.
Sheikh Amer (1927-2016) learned the Holy Qur’an by heart at an early age and Qur’anic recitation skills over the years.
He joined the Egyptian radio as a Qur’an reciter at the age of 36. He traveled to different countries, including Palestine, Brazil, France, the UK and the US for recitation of the holy verses.
Amer also visited Iran several times and served as a member of the jury in international Qur’an contests in the country.
Less than three weeks ago, another eminent Egyptian Qari Sheikh Raqib Mustafa Qalwash died at the age of 77.
