Texas to Host ‘Us’

A play reading session titled ‘Us’, by Iranian theater director Kioumars Moradi will be held in the US state of Texas on February 20 and 21.

A 2009 production of Aram Art Institute, the play ‘Home’, written by Naghmeh Samini will be read out by a group of theater artists at the event, ISNA reports.

Jamal Arian, Sharmin Afshar, Sina Iman, Fatemeh Tashakori, Soheil Daryadel, Shaqayeq Rezaei, Hengameh Fallah, Ghazaleh Saeidi, Pegah Abdollahi, Zahra Tayebi, Marjaneh Goudarzi, Bahar Momeni and Nima Nik Tab’e are among theater artists selected to participate in the workshop, organized by the institute in Texas.

The group will read the play along with a cello performance by Dallas-based cello teacher and performer, Mandy Milliot.

‘Us’ is a project designed by the institute under which play reading sessions for four plays by four directors have been planned in different US states.

Born in Tehran, Moradi, 43, holds a master’s degree in theater directing and a bachelor’s degree in dramatic literature from the Tehran University of Art. He started his career as a theater director in 1993 and has worked on 20 plays so far that have been staged on local and international stages.

His last work ‘City without Sky’ was performed at France’s Festival d’Avignon 2010.

Moradi won the 1st prize for best foreign theater in the 9th National Theater Festival of School of Drama in 2006 and 2008.
