Iranian animation ‘A Brief Encounter’ directed by the young illustrator and 2D artist Somayeh Yazdanpanah won the award for Best Animation Short at the Nevermore Film Festival in the US.

The festival received 1,275 submissions, of which 11 features and 41 shorts entered the final lineup to compete for the main awards.

‘A Brief Encounter’ is thematized on the issue of love and the transient nature of life, Mehr News Agency reported.

The 2014 production which runs for two minutes and 36 seconds recounts the story of a dragon that lives in the suburbs and burns the city’s trash. One day, on the way home it meets a small girl and a new story develops.

Yazdanpanah’s debut work has attended several international festivals so far including Switzerland’s Fantoche International Animation Film Festival as well as festivals in Poland and Hungary.

Created in 1999, The Nevermore Film Festival is a juried competition festival which programs brand-new genre feature and short films from around the world.

A total of 25 countries participated in this year’s round of the festival such as Slovenia, Puerto Rico, Latvia and Cyprus. The event was held February 12-14 at Carolina Theater of Durham in North Carolina.
