Reading Center for Patients

Coinciding with the opening of the 13th Provincial Book Fair in the southern Hormozgan Province on January 30, the Abou Reyhan Center for Special Diseases in the provincial capital Bandar Abbas opened a reading center for patients.

Reading therapy can help in the recovery process of patients and improve their health condition, Ali Asghar Karandish, deputy minister for development and resources affairs at the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance said on the occasion, IRNA reported.

Over 300 volumes on different subjects are available at the center, providing an opportunity to patients and nurses to use their free time in a useful way,” Karandish said. There are over 1,400 thalassemia, 175 hemophilia, 12,000 diabetes, 400 dialysis and 392 cancer cases currently in the province.

 Wall of Kindness

For the first time in a provincial book event, a ‘Wall of Kindness’ was dedicated for donated books.

It started as a philanthropic project in major cities to supply clothes for the homeless and needy.

Numerous publishers have come forward to donate to the book charity project, which is aimed at collecting books for school children in remote areas that are deprived of libraries.

The book fair is presenting 66,000 titles from 670 publishers in about 440 stalls, and will run through February 5.
