A cultural plan ‘Nowroz (New Year) Gift Book’ to encourage people to visit bookstores and buy books will be launched on February 11, the 37th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
People will have over 40 days to purchase books at a 20% discount before the new Iranian year begins (March 20), ISNA reported.
Nowruz is the start of the Iranian New Year. It is the traditional annual festival to mark the start of spring which commences at the exact moment of the vernal equinox.
Organized by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, the project will continue until March, said Seyed Abbas Salehi, cultural deputy at the ministry.
The ministry is offering financial assistance to the bookstores so that it will be possible for them to offer their titles at lower prices. This will be beneficial to both the readers, who will be able to get their favorite titles cheaper (compared to the usually expensive price of books these days), as well as the sellers who can expect better sales, as books could be one of the gifts people would choose to give for the New Year.
