On the 6th day of the International Fajr Theater Festival, Tehran City Theater, one of the venues for the event, celebrated its 43rd founding anniversary (Jan. 26).

Hamid Samandarian’s play ‘The Marriage of Mr. Mississippi’ was staged for the occasion, following which the veteran theater actor and director made a speech, Mehr News Agency reported.

Parisa Moqtadi, director of the complex, said, ‘I’m proud of working for this beautiful round building. It is an honor for me.”

The complex was designed by architect Ali Sardar Afkhami in the 1960s and opened in 1972. Since then, the main theater in the capital has been host to numerous Persian and foreign plays. The renowned play ‘Cherry Orchard’ by Russian playwright Anton Chekhov, with Daryoush Farhang, Sousan Taslimi, Mehdi Hashemi, Fahimeh Rastgar, Parviz Pourhosseini and other acclaimed actors, was the first show staged in the main hall. The cast was present at the anniversary celebrations.

Asghar Kashi-Tarash Esfahani, the designer of the tiles used in the construction of the complex, was also honored at the event.

Esfahani, Farhang and Ali Moradkhani, the deputy culture minister for artistic affairs, jointly cut a cake decorated with an image of the complex at the end of the ceremony.

Tehran City Theater is a performing arts complex and a major tourist attraction.
