The young and well-known Armenian pianist Hayk Melikyan will start his concert tour in Iran from January 13.

His first time in Iran, the Armenian artist will perform six recitals in five major cities in the country, Honaronline reported.

Melikyan’s inaugural performance will be in Bushehr in south of Iran, on Wednesday. In Tehran, he will hold a 2-day concert at Roudaki Music Hall on January 15 and 16. He travels  to Yazd in central Iran on Jan. 17 and from there to the southwestern city of Ahwaz to stage a recital on Jan. 19. His tour of Iran will wrap up on Jan. 20 with a concert in Shiraz.

Melikyan will mainly present contemporary music by Armenian (Tigran Mansuryan, Arthur Akshelyan and others) and Iranian (Amir-Mahyar Tafreshipour, Hormoz and Shahin Farhat and others) composers. His repertoire will also include pieces from acclaimed Swiss composer Heinz Holliger, French pianist Michel Karsky and Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu.

Special master classes for Iranian students will also be held in the cities where he is performing.

After his Iranian concerts, Melikyan will give a recital in the Armenian capital Yerevan, which will launch the 2016 Concert Season of KOMITAS Museum Institute on January 29.

Melikyan, 35, is a laureate of many international piano competitions. He was awarded the title of Honorary Artist of Armenia in 2013.
