The Irvine International Film Festival (IIFF) in California, US, has announced the nominations for the 2016 edition, with two Iranian films, each with two nominations.

‘Oblivion Season’ directed by Abbas Rafei is nominated for the Best Feature Narrative. To win the title, it should compete with six other feature films, Mehr News Agency reported.

For her performance in Rafei’s movie, Sareh Bayat is nominated for the Best Actress. She is competing with three other actresses for the title.

Rafei’s acclaimed movie recently won the Best Actress Award in the 8th edition of the Jaipur International Film festival in India.

The flick also won two awards at the Phoenix Film Festival Melbourne 2015, as well as the awards of best film and best actress at the Universal Film Festival held in Kansas City, Missouri.

It is the story of a strong-spirited woman who, against all prejudices, tries to assert herself as a working woman.

The American festival has also selected Mehdi Ganji’s ‘I Want to Be King’ in the Feature Documentary category, vying for the award along with seven other films, as well as the Trailers section where there are nine more candidates.

The documentary was the official selection of over 10 international festivals in 2014 and 2015 and won the Audience Choice award at the 6th Annual Chagrin Documentary Film Festival in Ohio, last October.

Ganji’s production depicts the life of Abbas, an Iranian ambitious job-creator, who has a successful business in eco-tourism with his family’s help. He wants to marry a second time to promote his business, but his wife is opposed.

The IIFF celebrates the power of individual expression and diverse points of views. It is dedicated to bringing to Orange County the finest films from around the world.

The event offers a unique opportunity to view films that are rarely seen, to become familiar with global issues, enhancing public awareness and participation.

The festival is slated for January 15-21, in Orange County, California, US. Awards will be handed out at the presentation show on Jan. 21.
