Tehran’s elementary schools will soon include educational programs on student theatre to both identify young talent in the performing arts as well as boost learning.

The Theatre Production Center at the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (IIDCYA) has invited 16 directors in performing arts to hold educational shows in 16 elementary schools in the capital and under 16 different programs, Honaronline reported.

The effects of visual senses in the learning process are beyond doubt, said Ali Yadollahi, one of the directors, who has worked on several concepts of Persian language grammar for 6th graders of elementary school, in the form of a show on ‘Seven Quests of Rostam’ (Haft-Khan-e-Rostam).

The ‘Seven Labors of Rostam’ is a series of acts carried out by the greatest of the Iranian heroes, Rostam, and immortalized by the celebrated poet Ferdowsi (940-1018 AD) in his world renowned epic poem, Shahnameh (The Book of Kings).

“There is no subject or age bar for indirect education and training through performance,” Yadollahi said. Identifying and improving students’ weak points would be more feasible if education experts and theatre artists collaborate closely.

About 45 performances are planned in the selected schools.

More shows are planned in cooperation with school authorities.
