Two choir groups from Iran ‘Avaye Mahan’ headed by Nima Fatehi and ‘Parseh’ led by Tayyeb Faghih have won medals at the International Choir Festival ‘Canta al mar’ held last month in Barcelona.
They competed with 44 other choirs from 27 countries including Norway, Italy, Spain, Russia and China, Mehr News Agency reported.
For its fine performance at the ‘Chamber Choirs of Mixed Voices’ category, ‘Avaye Mahan’ received a silver medal, while its presentation at the ‘Folklore’ category brought them a bronze.
A chamber choir or group of chamber singers is the choral equivalent of a chamber ensemble, using voices instead of instruments.
Comprising 20 singers, ‘Avaye Mahan’, is also planning to stage a special concert at Tehran’s Eivan-e-Shams Hall in December. The concert will include old songs of the world’s best musicians which will be performed in English by a classic pop choir.
Founded in 2007 by Fatehi, the group was crowned best vocal ensemble in the western classical music section at the 30th Fajr International Music Festival.
‘Parseh’, the other Iranian group won the silver medal in the ‘Folklore’ category.
The festival is one of the most famous European music events and an annual meeting place for choirs from all over the world. This year’s edition was broadcast by 17 European TV channels.
