The cast and crew from Shakespeare’s Globe Theater successfully staged their performance of ‘Hamlet’ in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan last week.
The performance was held at the Opera and Ballet Theater named after Tajik national poet Sadriddin Ayni.
The British Embassy said the production is part of a two year global tour ‘The Globe to Globe-Hamlet’. Sixteen extraordinary men and women are travelling across seven continents to perform the play “in a huge range of unique and atmospheric venues,” Asiaplus reported.
The tour opened at Shakespeare’s Globe on April 23, 2014, the 450th anniversary of the playwright’s birth. The company aims to bring its theatrical performances to 205 countries around the world and Tajikistan was the 141st country they visited.
British ambassador to Tajikistan, Hugh Philpott said: “We are truly excited to have the opportunity to facilitate this performance of Hamlet by the world renowned British theater company. This positive event is a significant step towards continuation of cultural relations between the United Kingdom and Tajikistan.”
