The second Festival of Books for Nomads and Villagers will be held in Ashkezar County in Yazd Province with the aim of promoting cultural development in remote areas.

Events related to books and reading will be organized in collaboration with the public and foundations and organizations operating in rural and nomadic areas, Mehr News Agency quoted Hadi Mollanouri, head of the Culture and Islamic Guidance Organization (CIGO), as saying.

The festival will include NGOs and public organizations involved in policy making and implementation of cultural plans.

A cultural package, including books and library equipment, will be given to the participants to motivate rural and nomadic people to attend the event, said Ebrahim Heidary, festival secretary.

Pointing to UNESCO’s support, Heidary said it is necessary to use scientific proposals of the UN agency in cultural policymaking and programming.

Organized by the CIGO, the event is sponsored by the Art and Culture Association of Yazd Province Mosques, Bank Ayandeh, Iran Public Libraries Foundation, Islamic Azad University, Iran Nomad Affairs Organization and the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.

The previous edition was attended by people from Taft, Mehriz and Abarkuh counties of Yazd. Heidary hoped the upcoming event would have a positive influence on reading among nomads and rural folks.

The deadline for submission of cultural proposals for the festival is November 11. They can be sent directly to the festival provincial secretaries or its central office in Tehran.
