Book House, Documentary Film Center Expand Coop.

Iran’s Book House Institute and the Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC), will sign a memorandum of understanding to collaborate in various areas that would be mutually beneficial.

At a recent meeting, Majid Gholami-Jaliseh, CEO of the Book House stressed on collaboration between the two institutions, IBNA reported.

Jaliseh said the institute is ready to support documentary films which use their subject matter from books. “The production of films about authors, publishers and those active in the field of writing, will be supported,” he said.

He also explained his collaboration with the 10th edition of Iran’s International Documentary Film Festival ‘Cinema Vérité’, slated for December 13-19, and said, “The institute is ready to evaluate the films dealing with books and honor the best works”.

Seyed Mohammad-Mahdi Tabatabainejad, CEO of DEFC, said documentaries play the same role for cinema as libraries for books. “Our activities indicate that we have annually published books related to our field just like a serious publisher,” he noted.

On collaboration with the Book House, he said, the cooperation “will strengthen our incentives.”

Recently a documentary film based on the life of Iraj Afshar (1925-2011), a prominent bibliographer, historian, and an iconic figure in the field of Persian studies, was unveiled in collaboration with the Book House.

Pointing to the film ‘The Modest Sage of Iran: Master Iraj Afshar’, Tabatabainejad added that the production of documentary films centering on books should be pursued seriously and cooperation with the Book House will help in the process.
