Authorities of the International Belgrade Book Fair (IBBF) announced Iran as guest of honor at its 61st edition.

“We officially name Iran as the guest of honor at the next edition of the fair to be held in 2016,” said City Secretary of Culture Vladan Vukosavljevic, at a press conference on Thursday in the Serbian capital Belgrade, Mehr News Agency reported.

Cultural figures from Serbia and other nations were present at the meet. Vukosavljevic hailed Iran’s ancient civilization and rich culture.

The 2015 edition, where Russia is the guest of honor, will be inaugurated on October 26. Over 158,000 titles from 25 countries will be presented at the 60th edition which concludes on November 2.

This year, like in the past, Iran is taking active part in the fair with plenty of titles, handicrafts, movies, maps and cultural brochures to introduce the country’s rich culture and civilization.

The Iranian Embassy in Belgrade has been publishing Persian books in the Serbian language. In the past 22 years, 100 titles from Farsi to Serbian have been translated and published.

The largest and oldest cultural event in the southeast of Europe, the fair aims to promote new releases and authors from Serbia and the world, as well as host a number of in-house events organized by publishers.
