Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art signed an agreement with Germany’s Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation to boost cultural and artistic ties, in the presence of German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, German Ambassador to Tehran Michael von Ungern-Sternberg and Ali Moradkhani, art deputy of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.

The agreement includes organizing a joint exhibition of German and Iranian modern art in Berlin, Mehr News Agency reported.

The German officials also visited artworks by Iranian and German artists and said the museum and its art collection reflect Iran’s rich heritage.

“Cultural diplomacy plays a major role in achieving the objectives of enhanced bilateral ties and sets right the wrong perceptions in Europe of Iran and Islam,” Steinmeier said.

He said “this is not merely an agreement, but a good opportunity to compensate for the shortcomings of the past in cultural and artistic exchanges between the two sides, and the chance has arisen once again.”

Moradkhani expressed hope that such collaborations will extend artistic cooperation between the two nations and introduce Iranian art to the world. The Prussian foundation in Berlin, was established in 1957 to acquire and preserve the cultural legacy of the former state of Prussia.
