Multilateral endeavors are necessary to make Persian (Farsi) an international language and a language of science, Mohama-Jafar Yahaghi, a member of Iran's Academy of Persian Language and Literature, said early this week.
Pointing to the ways to promote the language, he said holding conferences to long-term planning for revival and expansion and undertaking research studies are vital to its protection, ISNA reported. Also its use should be regulated by encouraging the youth, university students and others to speak their mother tongue more efficiently.
To promote Farsi, it must be updated to meet the needs and interests of new generations; a trend that fortunately has already commenced. Issues relating Persian language and literature should be taken seriously and officials and scholars should strive and plan to further enrich Farsi.
The academy functions under government authority and presides over the use of Persian language in Iran and other Persian speaking countries. Its members include academics of Persian literature and linguistics from Iran, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, and Uzbekistan.
