A play ‘The Marriage of Mr. Mississippi’, directed by Ehsan Falahatpisheh is underway at Iranshahr Theatre Hall in Tehran.
Written by celebrated Swiss author and dramatist, Friedrich Durrenmatt, the story is about Mr. Mississippi, the main character, who has married Anastasia only to expiate their guilt for the murders they have both committed.
The play has not been performed since it was staged by the late Hamid Samandarian, celebrated theatre director in 1989, Honaronline reported.
“I chose the text because it deals with fundamentalism which is relevant in today’s world, especially in the Middle East region,” said Falahatpisheh.
Several themes run through the play, including physical and spiritual decay, the need for the individual to return both physically and mentally to a higher existence, and a desire to change the world.
Falahatpisheh said, “Durrenmatt’s comedies, like today’s world, are replete with tragedies, which show his parodic perspective towards reality.”
Mohammad-Sadeq Malek, Arash Falahatpisheh Mohammadreza Maleki, Mehdi Nosrati, Arezoo Nabovat and Kambiz Monsef are among the actors.
The 90-minute show will run through October 30, at Iranshahr Theatre Hall, Honar Garden, North Mousavi St., Taleqani Ave.
