Director Vahid Jalilvand’s ‘Wednesday, May 9’ won the INTERFILM award at the 72nd Venice Film Festival in Italy.

The award for the film which was shown in the Horizons section of the event was announced by a jury of six international critics on the last day of the festival (Sept. 12), Honaronline reported.

It was Iran’s only representative at the Venice festival which had four screenings for the press and public and received positive reviews.

The film tells the story of a philanthropist who puts an ad in the newspaper offering to give away 30 million tomans (almost $9000) to someone in need. The generous offer attracts a huge crowd of needy.

Actors Niki Karimi and Amir Aqaee and director Jalilvand attended the premier.
