Artist Farhad Gavzan from Dastan’s Basement gallery will represent Iran with his exhibits at London’s second annual START Art Fair, September 10-13.

Held at Saatchi Gallery, the event will introduce START Projects, a series of curator-led initiatives, Honaronline reported.

Gavzan will showcase seven works alongside 14 other participants in ‘This is Tomorrow’, an invitation section presenting a series of works by artists whose “art speaks of and beyond, contemporary condition.”

“Being human is the subject matter and drawing is the only concern in my mind,” Gavzan said in a statement.

Born in Babol, Iran, Gavzan, 41, has a master’s degree in painting and has held 17 solo art exhibitions in different cities. He has published three books featuring a collection of his drawings, and frequently holds specialized talks and seminars on drawing.

His drawings are contemporary in nature, but rooted in the historic arts of Iran.

The artworks that will be presented in London have not been showcased in Iran yet and will be put on display later at the gallery.

START aims to spotlight emerging artists and new art scenes. It displays contemporary art from around the world that focus on showing emerging artists or art scenes. A total of 38 galleries from Seoul to New York will showcase their best works with an emphasis on artists new to London.

Dastan’s Basement was established in 2012 in northern Tehran and is dedicated to exhibiting artworks of the new generation of emerging Iranian artists. It is also devoted to research on visual arts.

Saatchi Gallery was founded in 1985 with the aim of making contemporary art accessible to the widest possible audience by providing an innovative platform for emerging artists to showcase their work.
