The secretariat of the Azadegan (literally, released prisoners) Visual Art Festival, received a total of 725 works which will be evaluated by the jury in the current week.

The festival call, issued early in summer, had invited Iranian artists and designers to attend the 1st edition of the event organized by Tehran’s Qasr Garden Museum, ISNA reported.

It aims to celebrate the 25th liberation anniversary of Iranian prisoners of the 1980-88 Iraq-Iran war and their return to the country, featuring artistic posters on several topics.

The ‘personal’ category covers faith, resistance, hope, confidence and capacity. The ‘social’, category includes welcoming the released prisoners, and martyrdom.

‘Cultural’ part includes prisoners’ impressions, the presence of Ayatollah Abutorabi among the prisoners and poems written by them. ‘Time and place’, the last part, includes celebrating 175 martyred divers who drowned in the line of duty.

Well-known graphic artists Ebrahim Haqiqi, Korosh Parsanejad, Onish Aminollahi, Hassan Shiva and Hiva Pashai are the jury members who will choose 10 top posters. The top five artists will be awarded cash prizes.

The exhibition of the selected works is slated for August 21-27 at the museum. A book containing the top works will also be published.
