Book publication saw a 16% increase in the first quarter of the current Iranian year (started March 21) compared with last year.
During the first three months, over 16,000 books were published while the number in the same period last year was less than 14,000, said Seyed Mohammad Tabatabai, director of public relations at Iran Book House.
Books are published in different fields, from philosophy and religion to science and art, IRNA reported. Supplementary educational books registered the biggest increase at 153%. Children and young adults’ books also saw an upswing with 6.5 million copies.
