A new book ‘Encyclopedia of Iran and World Women’ including the biographies of close to 2000 influential figures in human culture and history, is now available in the market.
The book chronicles their lives and activities, “regardless of their positive or negative role,’ Khabaronline reported.
The encyclopedia is in alphabetical order and prominent figures have been selected from various fields of literature, art, sports, natural and social sciences among others. Famous fictional and mythical characters are also included.
Published by Ertebate Novin (modern communication) Publication, what distinguishes the work from the rest of its kind is the broad range of topics and fields covered.
Some personalities in the book are introduced to readers for the first time. The lives of notable figures in fundamental sciences such as astronomy, mathematics, chemistry, and medicine presented in the encyclopedia are not found in earlier Persian works.
Unlike other similar titles which merely introduce luminaries from among the departed, the new book enumerates eminent living people as well. Moreover, it is not a mere biography, and unbiased criticism, comments and analyses on the figures are also included.
The compilation of the book took five years. It is published in two volumes in a total of 1,600 pages and is priced $50.
