1st Young Adult Filmmakers Olympiad

The first round of the Young Adult Filmmakers Olympiad will be held on the periphery of the 29th International Festival of Film for Children and Young Adults (IFFCYA).

It will be held in cooperation with Farabi Cinema Foundation and Iranian Youth Cinema Society (IYCS) in October. Actor and producer Alireza Shojanoori is the event secretary, Mehr News Agency reported.

The event aims to foster and harness potential in teenagers interested in filmmaking. It seeks to indentify talent and innovative ideas in the short film industry.

Three films from each province will be selected by regional workgroups of the IYCS. The works submitted will be judged and evaluated in the IYCS provincial festivals before entering the Olympiad. The selected films will be screened at the 32nd Tehran International Short Film Festival that is to take place in November.

Young adults born between 1996 and 2003 in the age groups 12 to 19 years this year can submit their works for the competition till September 1. Each participant may submit a three-minute film on the subject of their choice. The selected applicants will have to attend an educational and counseling workshop free of charge.

The 29th IFFCYA is slated for Oct. 2-7 under the auspices of the Farabi Cinema Foundation in collaboration with the Strategic Council of Policy Making for Children’s Theatre.

The festival comprises national and international sections. A script writing contest and special screenings of films are planned in addition to the Olympiad.

The IFFCYA jury will award 11 Golden Butterflies in the international section and 19 plus Silver Butterflies in the national section of the event.
