The director of the Moscow International Book Fair (MIBF) Sergei Kaykin plans to visit Tehran in the coming days as part of the efforts to boost cultural relations between the two sides and to hold talks on Iran’s participation in the fair as the Guest of Honor.

“The director of the Moscow fair was due to visit in May during the Tehran International Book Fair. However the visit was postponed,” deputy director of TIBF Amir-Masud Shahramnia, told the media.

He said the second coordination meeting was held to discuss Iran’s presence in MIBF, reports MNA.

Over 18 publishers, including the University Publication Club, the Cultural Association of Children’s Book Publication and the Sacred Defense Publication so far have registered to attend the fair. Alhoda publications and the Organization for Researching and Composing University Textbooks in Humanities (SAMT), affiliated to the Ministry of Science, are active in the publication of books in the Russian language, Shahramnia added.

Additionally, Iranology institutions, cultural foundations, Russian language departments of the University of Tehran and Allameh Tabataba’i University, office of the Iranian cultural attaché in Moscow and representatives of the Tehran Municipality will attend the fair.

Shahramnia hoped for a large Iranian presence, since last year’s edition of the fair saw a thin attendance of national authors and publishers.

The MIBF was established in 1977 and is an official member of the International Organization of Book Publishers. At the 27th MIBF slated for September, the Iran Cultural Fairs Institute (ICFI) will represent Iran.
