In a ceremony held on October 5 in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, the 600th birth anniversary of Jami, the great Iranian poet and scholar was commemorated.

Tajik President Emomalii Rahmon and a group of cultural and political figures from Iran, Tajikistan, India, and Afghanistan attended the event, IRNA reported.

Pointing out to the several ceremonies scheduled to be held in Tajikistan regarding traditional culture, science and literature of the country, Rahmon said, “such programs, one of the main policies of the state, are to glorify Persian speakers not only in the country but all around the world.”

A number of articles were presented at the ceremony by Iranian researchers.

It is the third time Tajikistan is holding this event since its independence 23 years ago. Persian language dominates in most parts of the country.

Nur al-Din Abd al-Rahman Jami, commonly known as Jami (1414 – 1492), is known for his achievements as a scholar, historian, mystic, writer, composer of numerous lyrics and idylls, and is considered the greatest Persian and Tajik Sufi poet of the 15th century.
