Veteran Musician Passes Away

The veteran Khorasani singer and musician Golam-Ali Pour-Ataei, who was hospitalized in Mashhad city due to lung infection and gallstones, passed away on October 4.

Pour-Ataei is better known among Iranians for the memorable song ‘Navaei Navaei’. Born in 1941 in Torbate Jam city, Khorasan Province, he was a virtuoso in playing ‘dotar’(Persian musical instrument). His fame took him all over the country to perform in concerts. He was also invited to perform abroad.

He has acted in more than 18 films and TV series for directors such as Bahram Bayzai and Varuzh Karim-Masihi. He has also enacted scenes from the Shahnameh (Book of Kings) and other Persian epics, accompanied by the ‘dotar’.

The art deputy of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Moradkhani sent a message of condolence on the singer’s demise.

The musician’s daughter Shahla Pour-Ataei told IRNA that the family would to like to bury him near the mausoleum of Ferdowsi in Tus, Khorasan.
