The Central Book City hosted a ceremony to honor top authors of children and young adults’ books named in the 13th ‘Flying Turtle’ list, on Monday.

Children and young adults who attended the event met with authors and translators of their favorite books and were introduced to the selected books, Mehr News Agency reported.

The books were chosen from the list of the Book House, a reference point for evaluation, said Mahmood Barabadi, spokesman of the jury.

An author of children’s books, Barabadi said painting and work books were excluded from the list. The books were judged by a 2-member committee and the top works read by 10 judges. A total of 75 books were registered in the spring list of ‘Flying Turtle’.

Pointing to the criteria in selecting books for the list, he said not only content was important but also “the appearance, and design of books.”

The publishers believe that the books should be carefully edited and aesthetically enriched to gain the best feedback from the readership, he said.

‘Flying Turtle’ is a list of children and young adults’ books provided seasonally in collaboration with the Book City Institution and the Professional Journal in Children and Young Adults’ Literature (both founded in 1995).

Books are reviewed seasonally and ranked based on their content at the end of each Iranian year (March 20) and the best books are awarded with silver or gold prizes at the annual celebration of ‘Flying Turtle Awards’.
