The choir ‘Avaye Mahan’ headed by Nima Fatehi, will compete in a well-known Spanish festival in October.

Barcelona will host the ‘Canta al mar’ choir competition, a follow-up of Interkultur Festival 2012, which will see the participation of choirs from all over the world, from October 21 to 25, Mehr news agency reported.

The Iranian group will take part in two categories of the competition namely ‘Chamber Choir’ and ‘Friendship Concerts’, said Fatehi. A chamber choir or group of chamber singers is the choral equivalent of a chamber ensemble, using voices instead of instruments. This choir usually comprises 20-40 singers. The competitors will perform musical pieces from Baroque and Renaissance, classical and romantic, and a piece by a contemporary composer.

In the ‘Friendship Concerts’, a piece by Liza Lehmann (English operatic soprano and composer) will be performed based on a poem by Omar Khayyam (renowned Persian mathematician, astronomer, philosopher, and poet) in addition to Iranian melodies.

Canta al mar Festival is one of the most famous European music events and a meeting place for choirs from all over the world annually. “Given the rich content of this international event, the presence of our group can be considered valuable,” said Fatehi.

‘Avaye Mahan’, is also planning to stage a concert of a different kind at Eivan-e Shams Hall. The concert includes English, Italian and French pieces accompanied by the ‘Kama’ music group.
