The kids play ‘The Little Witch’ directed by Fariba Daliri and performed by Chalik Theater Group is on stage at the children’s theater Honar Hall.

The play is a loose adaptation of one of the six books by Otfried Preussler, the successful German children’s book author, all of which have been best-sellers in Germany, Honaronline reported.

“As I was reading Preussler’s books I realized they all shared my imagination’s fantastical elements and are capable of stunning the audience; however, this book needed to turn into a screenplay first,” said Daliri, adding that the dramaturgy was by Hadi Hasanali. The script was revised several times.

The play was originally debuted in the 14th Tehran International Puppet Theatre Festival and the team started rehearsing it for its current run in February 2015. The major modifications after the festival were in set design and wardrobe.

Daliri said the play “has elements of high fantasy and enjoys a plethora of aesthetic touches.”

“If everything in a play is designed in line with the work’s purpose there is no need for extra tricks to captivate the audience and that goes for all parts of a play. Everything in this performance including the wardrobe, music, and lyrics are set to match the concept of the play,” she said on the technicalities.

“We hope to be able to take the performance on stage in other halls across the country.”

The cast includes Arash Sadeghian-Haghighi, Fatemeh Khodabandeloo, Hadi Hassanali, Arian Naseri-Mehr, Shirin Jashefi, Ehsan Samanimanesh, and Layli Ghorbanali. It will be staged every night till May 9 except on Saturdays at 7:30 pm at Honar Hall, No 15, Varzandeh Street, South Mofatteh Street, Haft-e-Tir Square, Tehran.
