Iran plans to construct a Formula 1 (F1) circuit in Qeshm Island “to satiate the demand of so many young people who have an appetite for auto racing,” said Vice-President and Head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization Masoud Soltanifar on Sunday, during his visit to the island.

F1 has a great future in Iran, and Qeshm Island has the potential to become one of the world’s most beautiful destinations for the world class racing competition, IRNA quoted him as saying.

Previously plans had been announced to build a F1 circuit in Parand city, 35 km south of capital Tehran.

F1 has been welcomed in locations in the Middle and Far East, such as Malaysia, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain.

Qeshm is the largest island in the Persian Gulf, with rocky coastlines that protects a mountainous and often beautiful interior. The coast is dotted with small villages and towns. The island is very long approximately 150 km from east to west. It serves as a duty free zone.
