Iranian drama ‘Objects in Mirror’ directed by Narges Abyar won the best feature film at the 37th Creteil International Women’s Film Festival in France.

One of the producers of the film Mohammad-Hossein Qassemi said the movie will soon be screened in Europe, MNA reported.

The festival, also known as ‘Films de Femmes’, is an annual event in Creteil, Paris, founded in 1978, to showcase the directing talents of female filmmakers. The latest edition of the festival was held March 13-27.

Another film from Iran was also in the final line-up for the competition section. The documentary ‘Iranian Ninja’ by Marjan Riahi was the other major Iranian contestant, which was previously screened in international festivals and won several awards.

‘Objects in Mirror’ narrates the story of a pregnant woman named Leila who is grappling with trivial and insignificant problems in life which appear bigger for her.

Cast in the 94-minute family drama which is a 2014 production, includes Gelareh Abbasi, Hessam Bigdelu, Mehran Rajabi, Fatemeh Shokri, and Giti Moini.

Abyar’s film was screened at other international festivals, namely the 16th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF), the 30th Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, the International Festival of National and Ethnic Films ‘Akbuzat’ in Russia, and the 2014 Middle East Now International Film Festival in Italy.

Born in 1970 in Tehran, Narges Abyar has written nearly 30 story and fiction books for children, young adults and adults. She has also made several short and feature-length documentaries. ‘Objects in Mirror’ was her debut feature film.

Although she won international acclaim for ‘Objects in Mirror,’ she is now best known for her second film ‘Track 143’, a war drama, which was largely praised locally and won several awards at prestigious festivals overseas.
