A seminar titled "Introduction of Japan's policies in using hydrogen and ammonia to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050" was held in Tehran on Tuesday.
The seminar was held in the presence of the director of health, safety and environment (HSE) of the National Iranian Oil Company, Abbas Razmi, the head of the Economic Department of Japan’s Embassy in Iran, Yuka Kida, and director of oil and LNG policy at the Natural Resources and Energy Agency of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Masashi Watanabe, the Oil Ministry’s news agency Shana reported.
At the beginning of the seminar, the NIOC director of HSE emphasized the necessity of managing gas flaring emissions and gaining awareness of new methods and their application in managing greenhouse gas emissions in Iran’s oil and gas industry.
“The main goal of this seminar is to reduce greenhouse emissions and good targeting and planning have been done in the world, especially in Japan,” he added.
Stating that Iran is among 10 top emitters of greenhouse gases, Razmi said, “Based on the plans and goals, positive steps have been taken regarding global health. By 2050, the world will go toward zero emission of greenhouse gases.”
The official underlined the importance of aligning with powerful institutions in using methods for achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
“It is necessary to have communication and interaction for future plans in the field of reducing flare gases, solving environmental challenges and familiarizing with new methods for estimating the amount of carbon dioxide gas emissions in oil and gas production facilities,” he said.
