• Ride-Hailing Firm’s Statistics Reveal Covid’s Impact on Passenger Behavior

According to the results, the number of ride-hailing requests fell the most in the fiscal 2020-21 in Bandar Anzali in Gilan Province, Karaj in Alborz Province and Sari in Mazandaran, with 8.4%, 6.73% and 5.57%, respectively

Iran’s second largest ride-hailing company Tap30 has released its annual report, revealing that in the last Iranian year (ended March 20, 2021), the number of urban travels declined slightly in major cities.

According to the company, the data are harvested from the registered travel requests in 18 cities wherein Tap30 operates, regarding the average driver speed between the starting point and the destination.

According to the results, the number of ride-hailing requests fell the most in the fiscal 2020-21 in Bandar Anzali in Gilan Province, Karaj in Alborz Province and Sari in Mazandaran, with 8.4%, 6.73% and 5.57%, respectively. The stats of the capital city of Tehran show a 3.07% decrease.

The drop in numbers is mostly attributed to sporadic lockdowns and quarantines in Iranian cities as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak, which officially spread in Iran in February 2020.

The data suggest that the only increasing numbers pertain to Qom and Kerman in the namesake provinces with 7.65% and 0.73% growth in the number of ride requests.

The least crowded hours, according to the report, were from 4-6 a.m. (except 12 a.m.-4 a.m.) and the most crowded hours were from 6-8 p.m.

    Interesting Data

According to Tap30's survey, the highest number of travel requests were registered in Tehran throughout the year. Surprisingly, the most in-demand driver in 2020-21 was from Babol, who took 8,797 calls, averaging 24 trips every day.

However, a Mashhad-based driver received the most travel requests since Tap30's launch in the spring of 2016, with 18,642 approved requests.

A Tehran resident was the most active passenger in the year, using Tap30 services 1,578 times, or an average of 4.3 trips per day.

According to the survey, another Tehran-based citizen, dubbed "the golden passenger" by Tap30, made the highest number of cab requests (3,201) since the company's launch.

According to the statistics, the longest and shortest distances traveled by Tap30 cars were 201 kilometers and 15 meters, respectively.

The longest and shortest travels have respectively taken five hours and 23 minutes, and three minutes.

The most popular destinations during the year under study have been Argentina Square in Tehran, Aalan Dasht in Mashhad, Namazi Square in Shiraz and Gohardasht junction in Karaj.

    Early Risers

Tap30’s survey also illustrates that citizens in Kerman, Tehran and Isfahan have had the most early-morning cab requests in the past year.

People in Bandar Anzali, Urmia and Rasht, on the other hand, have had the least morning requests and the most night-time travels.

Most night-time calls have been registered in Kerman.

Citizens in Bandar Anzali, Urmia and Sari have the most canceled requests among other cities. Cab calls in Mashhad, Tehran and Rasht have had the least cancellations.

Request cancellation is an option both for the passengers and the drivers, giving them the opportunity to undo a mistaken click and in emergencies. When a driver cancels a request, the passenger has to spend more time and keep requesting a ride.

Tap30 stats show that on average, the cancellation of travel requests by passengers wastes an average of 20 minutes per day for each driver, which is equal to 15-20 travels in a month.

    Service Satisfaction

Although request cancellation might be an upsetting experience for the passengers or the drivers, there are numerous travels with high satisfaction rates for both.

Tap30 lets drivers and passengers rate their travels from one to 10.

According to the report, in Sari, Qaemshahr and Babol in Mazandaran Province and Shiraz in Fars Province, drivers and passengers have recorded the largest number of top scores.

The company’s report illustrates that drivers in Yazd, Mashhad and Shiraz gained the highest average score.

Since the outbreak of coronavirus in Iran in mid-February 2020, adhering to hygiene protocols has become a crucial part of the ride-hailing services and passengers can also score the driver’s health-protective measures.

According to the survey, drivers in Tehran and Yazd have earned the best scores in terms of hygienic measures. Data also suggest that 95% of Tap30 drivers used facemasks during travels.

Since its inception, Tap30 extended its services to Tehran, Karaj, Isfahan, Shiraz, Mashhad, Tabriz, Ahvaz, Yazd, Rasht, Urmia, Qom, Kerman, Bandar Anzali, Sari, Babol, Qaemshahr, Amol and Lahijan.

Tap30 and Snapp, along with the latest competitor Maxim, leverage smartphone apps to gain customers.

The applications are available for download on Android and iOS platforms.

Tap30 reports that it has close to 900,000 strong fleets, while close to two million drivers are working for the company’s archrival Snapp.

The two firms reportedly undertake 300,000 trips per day in the capital city alone.
