Several innovative medical products made by local knowledge-based companies were unveiled at the Tech Center of the Tehran-based University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences late last week.
Three products, including unique kinds of physiotherapy and rehabilitation tools, were displayed on the sidelines of the Third International Physiotherapy Congress of Iranian Physiotherapy Association held on June 12-14, Mehr News Agency reported.
“A biofeedback training system was among the innovative products,” Amir Salar Jafarpisheh, the head of the university's tech center, said.
Once attached to a part of human body via special electrodes, the device allows the monitoring of biological responses to movements.
"The unique point about the device is that without using a computer or monitor, the system receives feedbacks from the human body and prepares a set of physical exercises to help the patient's rehabilitation process," Jafarpisheh said.
The system is a portable device with an internal processor, memory card and HDMI cable slots.
"Music glove" was the other product unveiled at the exhibition. The tool helps neurologic and physically challenged patients—especially those who have a stroke—to recover faster.
"With the help of a smartphone application, the glove converts hand movements into music notes. Through the played notes, the patient's brain can relate each move into a special note. The repeated use of the glove will help patients recover neurologically," Jafarpisheh said.
The glove is portable and ideal for home use, he added.
A disability lift was the third product introduced at the exhibition. The electro-mechanical foldable lift system can handle up to 150 kilogram of weight and helps move physically disabled patients from wheelchairs to beds or vehicles.
"The device works with a rechargeable battery and there is no need for a direct power supply," he added.
By utilizing government support, knowledge-based companies and their technological products are gaining popularity in the country.
