484 MW Power Plant to Come on Stream in Lorestan

Gas units of the first phase of Khorramabad Combined Cycle Power Plant in Lorestan Province, have registered 70% progress and will come on stream in the fall, said the managing director of Saba Power and Energy Group, which has invested in the project.

The plant consists of two phases, each being a combined cycle block of two gas units and a steam unit with a total capacity of 484 megawatts, Iran Student Correspondents Association (ISCA News) reported Amir Anvari as saying.

Construction of the plant started in 2017 and the two gas units of phase one are expected to go on stream later in the year. The steam unit will be ready by 2021.

The company says $348 million was invested in each phase of the plant that will supply energy and contribute to industrial development in the region.

A transmission line of 12 kilometers has been laid to connect the power plant to the national grid.

Saba Power and Energy Group was founded in 2004 as the first privately funded company in the rapidly growing electricity market. It has several companies involved in the purchase, construction and operation of power plants.

So far it owns five power plants with an overall capacity of 3,500 MW and is in charge of operation and maintenance of 7 thermal plants with a total capacity of 5100 MW.

Close to $3.5 billion has been invested in power plants since 2017. Last year 8,000 MW was added to the national network raising the total installed capacity to 81,000 MW. Plans call for increasing output to 85,000 MW by next March.
