Moon: Iran a Reliable Partner for S. Korea

South Korean President Moon Jae-in highlighted the historical Tehran-Seoul relationship, describing Iran as an “important” and “reliable” partner.

He made the remarks during a ceremony to receive the new Iranian ambassador’s credentials in Seoul on Wednesday.

“The two countries’ cooperation has endured even through the toughest times,” he was quoted as saying by IRNA.

Moon also offered thanks to Iranian officials for their positive approach to efforts toward peace on the Korean peninsula.

Saeid Badamchi Shabestari, who had started his mission as ambassador to South Korea in early October, underscored long-standing relations between the two countries, stressing the importance of enhancing mutual cooperation in political, economical, cultural and parliamentary fields.

He voiced hope that the problems hindering bilateral ties particularly in financial and banking sectors due to the United States’ sanctions will be addressed with the cooperation of the South Korean president.

Moon also expressed optimism about the removal of obstacles in the way of relations.
