Following an extended delay in delivery of presold Renault cars in Iran, the French automotive company’s partner in the country Pars Khodro has issued a statement apologizing to customers saying some of the vehicles will be delivered next week.
In the statement published on the Pars Khodro website, the company says that since Donald Trump pulled out of the historic nuclear deal in May and imposed sanctions, output of Renault cars declined.
“The delay in delivery of presold Renault cars has been caused by the unjust US sanctions,” the statement said.
During the five months to August 22, Pars Khodro production rate of Renault cars dropped to 25,902 from last year’s 38,958 -- a 33.5% year-on-year decline.
The firm’s total output has declined 11.6% compared to the same period last year, sinking to 78,385 units.
In addition to Renault models, Pars Khodro manufactures the small city hatchback Pride, which SAIPA also makes, along with several Chinese-derived cars in collaboration with Brilliance Auto Group.
In addition to waiting for their cars, customers have been provided two other options as compensation.
The first is to get a refund with an interest rate along with an additional sum for the delay in the delivery of cars. The second is to accept a different model. The company so far has not released names of models that customers can pick and choose from.
