Iran on Friday condemned a deadly suicide bombing at a Shia mosque in eastern Afghanistan, saying that the Afghan people will remain vigilant in the face of attempts to spread insecurity in the country. “Imported terrorism imposed on the Afghan people is aimed at sowing discord among the people of Afghanistan through indiscriminate [attempts] to create insecurity,” Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi said in a statement. This “evil” plot will definitely be foiled and the perpetrators of this attack will be brought to justice through the vigilance and wisdom of the people and government in Afghanistan, he added. At least 39 people were killed and 80 were injured in the suicide bombing in the city of Gardez when two militants struck with guns and explosives at the Khawaja Hassan mosque, Reuters reported on Friday, citing police and government officials.
