Short Animation to Compete in Rhode Film Festival

Short animation “Run Rostam Run” directed by Hossein Molayemi will compete at the 36th Rhode Island International Film Festival in the US, August 7-12.

The 11-minute 2D animated film is loosely based on the well known story of Rostam in Shahnameh (Book of Kings) written by acclaimed Persian poet Ferdowsi (935-1020). It will compete with nine other short animations at the American festival, IRNA reported.

In Shahnameh, Rostam, unaware of having a son, Sohrab, faces him in battle. After stabbing Sohrab fatally, Rostam realizes the truth. The animation shows Rostam travels to the future to find a cure for his dying son.

The animation has participated in several festivals including Annecy in France. It recently won the award of distinction from Edukino Film Festival in Poland.

An annual event, Rhode Island Festival is a platform for the creative and cultural discovery of cinematic talent. The festival is a qualifying event for the British Academy of Television and Film Arts (BAFTA) and the Oscar.
