Out of 700 inspections carried out by Tehran Province Institute of Standards last year (March 2017-18), the elevator safety of only five buildings complied with standard requirements, says the head of the institute, Mahmoud-Reza Taheri. The follow-up inspections also showed only 79 of the flagged violations have been resolved so far and the rest remain unresolved, he added. The official also said in the Iranian year 1395 (March 2016-17), barely 16 elevators met the safety standard requirements out of 1,418 inspections, IRNA reported.
