Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs Gholam-Reza Ansari held talks with the Chilean Foreign Minister Roberto Ampuero on Saturday.
According to a report on the Foreign Ministry website, Ansari, in his capacity as President Hassan Rouhani’s special envoy, conveyed a verbal message from the president to the Chilean leader Sebastian Pinera, Mehr News Agency reported.
The senior envoy was on a similar mission in Brazil a day earlier.
The government in Tehran has initiated political contacts with foreign governments in recent weeks on ways to save the 2015 nuclear deal after the controversial US exit.
On May 8, Donald Trump pulled the US out of the agreement, which was signed in Vienna in 2015 after years of negotiations between Iran and the six world powers (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France plus Germany).
Following the US exit, Iran and the remaining parties launched extensive talks to save the landmark agreement.
