Senior military commanders from Iran and Pakistan agreed on Friday to boost cooperation on border security.
The agreement was made in a meeting in Tehran between Mohammad Pakpour, commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Ground Force, and Bilal Akbar, visiting Chief of General Staff of the Pakistan Army, IRNA reported. The two sides underlined the need to boost military and security collaboration and stressed the importance of intelligence sharing and fighting terrorists in the border retgions. The Foreign Ministry on Thursday summoned Pakistan’s Ambassador Asif Ali Khan Durrani over a Tuesday terrorist attack on Iranian border guards. Bandits from Pakistan were involved in the attack in which three security forces were killed and eight were wounded in Mirjaveh, carried out the attack. Mirjaveh is a town in southeast Sistan and Baluchestan Province. It is the main border crossing point between Iran and Pakistan. The Pakistani general also met with Iran’s Army Commander Brigadier General Abdolkarim Mousavi on Saturday where he called for more enhanced relations to maintain the interests of the two countries.
